Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Colossians 3:12-13
The empowerment in this passage comes from the fact that God chose you to be the one He loves. As a result of receiving that love he gives us instructions to follow. Clothe ourselves. Put these things on intentionally. Do what He instructs us to as a response to His love for and in us. Give to others what he has imparted to us. He only gives that to us that we are willing to share.
